SUMMARY:Coleman Highlands Neighborhood Yard Sales
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Saturday\, June 13th is the date for this year’s neighborhood yard sales. If you’d like your address to be listed here\, on social media\, and in our June newsletter as a participating location\, please contact us! We’ll have red signs up and down Karnes a few days before June 14th announcing the upcoming yard sales\, but feel free to put up your own signs indicating your specific sale address. \nParticipating Addresses\n\n3224 W Coleman Rd. (Saturday)\n3312 W Coleman Rd. (Friday & Saturday)\n3410 W Coleman Rd. (Saturday)\n915 W 32nd St. (Saturday)\n937 W 32nd St. (Saturday)\n945 W 32nd Terrace (Saturday & Sunday)\n949 W 33rd Ter. (Saturday)\n928 W 34th St. (Saturday)\n815 W 35th St. (Saturday)\n3200 Karnes Blvd. (Saturday)\n3344 Karnes Blvd. (Saturday)\n\nIf you plan on participating in the Neighborhood Yard Sale Day on Saturday\, June 13th\, email sonyabaughman@gmail.com to be put on the list on this event page and on our social media. \nRules for Participation\nThere’s no rules. Just have a yard sale on Saturday. You can start your yard sale Friday and run it through Sunday if you want to\, but the official date of the Neighborhood Yard Sale is Saturday\, June 13th. You can run your sale any hours that work for you! Standard yard sale hours seems to be in that 9-5 range\, but we’re not making any laws about what hours you can run your own yard sale – everyone’s got busy lives and have their own schedules they need to work with. ☺️ \nA couple recommendations:\n\nTo ensure good foot traffic\, please put signs out with your address\, dates\, and hours of your sale.\nPost on social media\, Nextdoor\, etc for more reach (you can share our page’s post if that’s easiest).\n\nDonating Leftover Yard Sale Items\nThere are many local charities that would love to receive your donations! Below are just a few. \nFree Curbside Pickup of Clothing\, Household Goods\, Toys\, Books\, Furniture\, etc.\nFor neighbors who are participating in the yard sales on Saturday\, there is an option for pickup of your unsold goods. You’ll need to have someone to help load your items. \nRe-Use-Full is a local organization that connects donors with non-profits. You might have heard of their Un-Dumpster Days or their Repair Cafes. Not only are they doing good for our metro\, they’re also soon opening a resale outpost just down the hill from us on Terrace Street next to Magpie. \nThere is an opportunity of them to pick up your unsold yardsale items on Saturday\, but \n\nYou’ll need to have someone to help load your goods\nPickup will be at 4pm to 5pm\nDonations must be in “still-good” condition\nPlease send your address to stacey.kenyon@gmail.com by Friday 6/12\n\nFlourish: Furniture Bank\nFlourish offers free furniture for low income families. They do charge for furniture pickup because the furniture they provide to families is given to those families free of charge\, so they do need to offset the costs of vehicle maintenance and furniture transport. Find out more about Flourish and how to schedule a pickup. \nScraps KC & Magpie Collective: Arts and Crafts Supplies\nOur friendly neighborhood crafting thrift stores down on Roanoke\, Scraps KC and Magpie Collective\, take donations of any usable craft items. Art and fabric paints\, brushes\, screen printing supplies\, yarn\, fabric\, papers and canvases\, drawing supplies\, woodworking tools and supplies\, office supplies\, classroom supplies for teachers\, and more! You’ll have to deliver these to Scraps\, but it IS just down the way and if you need help getting stuff there\, please contact the Coleman Highlands Board and one of us will be happy to help you deliver. \nHabitat Restore KC: Home Improvement Items\nHabitat Restore KC will take donations of building materials\, fixtures\, and appliances in good working condition\, as well as furniture\, interior and exterior paints\, and hardscaping/landscaping materials like pavers\, garden edging\, lawn decor and statuary\, etc. You can schedule a free pickup or drop items off at one of the local Restore locations (the Deramus location is probably the closest\, and that’s also around the corner from both household hazardous waste drop-off\, one of our recycling centers\, and also the Missouri Organic leaf and brush drop-off\, so if you’ve got a lot to get rid of after your yard sale\, you can do it all in one trip).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Around the World Porch Parties
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nGreetings\, Coleman Highlanders! \nIf you’ve lived here a while\, you know what’s coming. If you’re new\, welcome\, and also\, buckle up. It’s almost time to pack our bags (read: walk a few blocks) and travel Around the World again. \nMark your calendars for Saturday\, October 24th\, at 5pm\, when Coleman Highlands sets out on our annual trip around the globe\, one porch at a time. Here’s how it works if you haven’t joined us before: we pick four fabulous\, far flung “countries\,” each one hosted at a different home on a different porch. We spend about an hour at each stop\, sampling beverages and snacks native to that destination\, before we hear the “now boarding” call and stroll on to our next port/porch of call. No passport required. Comfortable shoes highly recommended. \nOver the years\, Coleman Highlanders have set up camp all over the map\, including: \n\nBelgium\, Hawaii\, South Korea\, and France (2025)\nMexico\, Greece\, and Italy (2023)\nSpain\, Great Britain\, and Canada (2022)\nJapan and Guadalupe (2019)\nVietnam\, Texas (yep\, some say it’s a country!)\, and Sweden (2018)\nSerbia and Polynesia (2017)\nIndia and Brazil (2016)\nJamaica and Germany (2015)\n\nHere’s the thing about a trip like this: it doesn’t happen without pilots. And that’s where you come in. \nThe world is your oyster for 2026. We’ve got one host/country already signed up\, but we still have 3 more. Your chance to stake your flag before someone else beats you to Portugal. We’re looking for neighbors willing to host a porch or a “country” this year\, and we’d love for it to be you.  \nHere’s the secret we’ve learned over a decade of doing this: the best porches aren’t the fanciest ones. They’re the ones where a neighbor or two teamed up\, picked a place that sounded fun to research\, and didn’t put too much pressure on themselves. A few pitchers of something appropriately themed and a snack or two goes a long way. This is neighborly fun\, not a competition\, and we mean that. \nIf you’re interested in hosting\, or if you’d like to co-pilot with someone else who might want the company (or the moral support)\, email Amy Bhesania at abhesania@gmail.com. If you’re stuck on a destination\, our team is happy to help you brainstorm. \nWe can’t wait to see where Coleman Highlands travels this year\, and we hope you’ll be part of the itinerary. \nFrom your stewards of neighborhood good times (and self-appointed Directors of Tourism)\, Sara Harms\, Amy Bhesania\, Jessie Kidwell\, and Kelly Lee \nThanks so much! \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
