DESCRIPTION:On Monday October 30th\, the city will collect brush and yard waste curbside in our neighborhood. Please pay attention to the rules for curbside collection: \n\nSacks and bundles should be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the regularly-scheduled trash day\, but not before 3:00 p.m. on the previous day.\nNo more than 20 sacks and bundles per household.\nSacks and bundles must not weigh more than 40 pounds each.\nUse only paper lawn debris sacks. No plastic bags.\nIf you seal the sacks\, use masking tape only; do not use plastic or duct tape.\nNo grass clippings. No trash.\nAll branches must be bundled. Branches must not be more than 3 inches in diameter.\nBundles of branches must not be more than 2 feet in diameter and not more than 4 feet long.\nUse twine or jute rope to tie bundles; do not use wire or plastic tape.\nIf wet weather is forecast\, cover sacks and bundles with clear plastic.\n\nIf sacks and bundles are not collected on the scheduled trash day\, residents must contact 311 within 24 hours. DESCRIPTION:From 8am – 3pm\, Saturday June 10th\, Coleman Highlands will be participating in a neighborhood-wide yard sale event that coincides with Hyde Park\, Southmoreland\, and Volker‘s neighborhood yard sales. \nCHNA will put out signage and advertise an 8am start time. Residents are encouraged to sell used merchandise\, crafts\, artwork\, or handmade goods. Sell stuff\, buy stuff\, or just get out and see your neighbors! \nAfter the sales are over Troost39 Thrift Store will be coming through the neighborhood to pick up donations BUT PLEASE MAKE A RESERVATION IN ADVANCE. Email your name and address to president@colemanhighlands.org to make a donation reservation by Thursday June 8th. Your donations should be boxed or bagged and outside if possible. If this is not possible due to anyone’s physical limitations\, the Troost39 team can come in to get them (depending on weight). DESCRIPTION:The Parks & Recreation Department and Penn Valley Conservancy will be hosting their third and final community open house on Tuesday\, March 28\, 2023\, from 5-7 p.m. at Just Off Broadway Theatre (3051 Central Street). Citizens are invited to review the proposed trail plan for the west portion of Penn Valley Park\, which incorporates feedback from earlier outreach efforts and establishes enhanced access and connections between the lake area\, The Scout overlook\, and Firefighters Memorial. The trail plan also examines opportunities for turf conversion to native prairie and improved bike/pedestrian movement.

DESCRIPTION:Charlotte Street Foundation welcomes us to their campus at 3333 Wyoming Street for our Annual Meeting and Election on November 11th at 6pm. \nCurrent President\, Secretary\, and Treasurer terms are all up for renewal or these board members and officers may choose not to renew their terms. Our board is quite small as it is and we are always looking for new members and helping hands. If you’d like to get involved we’d welcome your participation. \nTerms are 3 years\, expected effort is ~5 hours per month.

SUMMARY:Pre-Halloween Trick-or-Treat 2022
DESCRIPTION:Pre-Halloween was started during COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 as a way for our neighborhood children to enjoy trick-or-treating with smaller crowds and at a safe distance from others. It was held the day before Halloween and was a big success. So many families enjoyed it that many neighbors wanted to carry on with this new tradition. \nWant to sign up to be on the Pre-Halloween participating houses map? CLICK HERE \nDOWNLOAD THE MAP OF PARTICIPATING HOUSES \nPre-Halloween is NOT a replacement for Halloween night. It can be an alternative or it can be IN ADDITION to regular Halloween. However you want to celebrate is entirely up to you. For some\, this means double Halloween fun — trick-or-treating or handing out candy BOTH nights. For others\, it means they can choose between whichever is more comfortable and/or convenient for them. \nHere are some reasons why many of our neighbors enjoy Pre-Halloween: \n\nThis year Halloween is on a Monday – a school night – so doing Pre-Halloween on Saturday might be more schedule friendly for little ones that need to go school or daycare the next day.\nSome parents are stuck home handing out candy while their child goes out trick-or-treating – often one parent stays in and the other goes out. Pre-halloween gives the other parent the opportunity to go out and enjoy halloween with their kids (or both parents and then stay home on Halloween night and hand out candy together as a family).\nSome people aren’t home on Halloween to hand out candy. Doing a pre-halloween gives them the opportunity to experience the fun of participating in the trick-or-treat experience.\nColeman Highlands gets pretty swamped with kids on Halloween from all over the city\, so it can be kinda crazy. For those who don’t particularly enjoy crowds\, the pre-Halloween trick-or-treat experience is more relaxing.\nDuring Pre-Halloween\, many people sit out at tables in their front yard instead of inside their homes\, which leads to a lot more neighborly conversation.
