DESCRIPTION:From 8 AM – Noon\, Saturday June 24th\, six dumpsters will be available to neighborhood residents.  Two will be designated for trash and two designated for yard waste.\nLOCATION\nAll dumpsters will be located at 32nd Terrace and West Coleman Road. \nPROHIBITED ITEMS\n\nTires\nHousehold Hazardous Waste (paint\, oil\, chemicals\, pesticides)\nWater Heaters\nFlourescent Lights (including CFLs)\nRefrigerators\nE-Waste (monitors\, computers\, household electronic items with internal compornents like mercury and other heavy metals)\nPlastic bags are not permitted in the leaf and brush dumpsters\n\nREMEMBER\n\nSign in with a volunteer.\nSet potentially reusable items and scrap metal on the curb next to trash dumpsters for our local scrappers.\nRECYCLE CARDBOARD AT THE CURB. Don’t bring it to the dumpster\, please.\nYou can pay your dues for 2023 to a volunteer if you haven’t already for this year!

Residents are encouraged to sell used merchandise\, crafts\, artwork\, or handmade goods. Sell stuff\, buy stuff\, or just get out and see your neighbors! \nAfter the sales are over Troost39 Thrift Store will be coming through the neighborhood to pick up donations BUT PLEASE MAKE A RESERVATION IN ADVANCE. Email your name and address to president@colemanhighlands.org to make a donation reservation by Thursday June 8th. Your donations should be boxed or bagged and outside if possible. If this is not possible due to anyone’s physical limitations\, the Troost39 team can come in to get them (depending on weight). SUMMARY:Pre-Halloween Trick-or-Treat 2022
DESCRIPTION:Pre-Halloween was started during COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 as a way for our neighborhood children to enjoy trick-or-treating with smaller crowds and at a safe distance from others. It was held the day before Halloween and was a big success. So many families enjoyed it that many neighbors wanted to carry on with this new tradition. \nWant to sign up to be on the Pre-Halloween participating houses map? CLICK HERE \nDOWNLOAD THE MAP OF PARTICIPATING HOUSES \nPre-Halloween is NOT a replacement for Halloween night. It can be an alternative or it can be IN ADDITION to regular Halloween. However you want to celebrate is entirely up to you. For some\, this means double Halloween fun — trick-or-treating or handing out candy BOTH nights. For others\, it means they can choose between whichever is more comfortable and/or convenient for them. \nHere are some reasons why many of our neighbors enjoy Pre-Halloween: \n\nThis year Halloween is on a Monday – a school night – so doing Pre-Halloween on Saturday might be more schedule friendly for little ones that need to go school or daycare the next day.\nSome parents are stuck home handing out candy while their child goes out trick-or-treating – often one parent stays in and the other goes out. Pre-halloween gives the other parent the opportunity to go out and enjoy halloween with their kids (or both parents and then stay home on Halloween night and hand out candy together as a family).\nSome people aren’t home on Halloween to hand out candy. Doing a pre-halloween gives them the opportunity to experience the fun of participating in the trick-or-treat experience.\nColeman Highlands gets pretty swamped with kids on Halloween from all over the city\, so it can be kinda crazy. For those who don’t particularly enjoy crowds\, the pre-Halloween trick-or-treat experience is more relaxing.\nDuring Pre-Halloween\, many people sit out at tables in their front yard instead of inside their homes\, which leads to a lot more neighborly conversation.

SUMMARY:Dumpster Day 2022
DESCRIPTION:This year we only have one dumpster day due to high demand in the neighborhoods across the city.\nFrom 8 AM – Noon\, Saturday August 27th\, four dumpsters will be available to neighborhood residents.  Two will be designated for trash and two designated for yard waste.\nLOCATION\nAll dumpsters will be located at 32nd Terrace and West Coleman Road. \nPROHIBITED ITEMS\n\nTires\nHousehold Hazardous Waste (paint\, oil\, chemicals\, pesticides)\nWater Heaters\nFlourescent Lights (including CFLs)\nRefrigerators\nE-Waste (monitors\, computers\, household electronic items with internal compornents like mercury and other heavy metals)\nPlastic bags are not permitted in the leaf and brush dumpsters\n\nREMEMBER\n\nSign in with a volunteer.\nSet potentially reusable items and scrap metal on the curb next to trash dumpsters for our local scrappers.\nRECYCLE CARDBOARD AT THE CURB. Don’t bring it to the dumpster\, please.\nYou can pay your dues for 2022 to a volunteer if you haven’t already for this year!

DESCRIPTION:This year’s 4th of July Parade and picnic will happen from 10:30am – 2pm. We’ll kick off the parade at 10:30 and at the end of the parade we’ll be grillin’ and chillin’! \nParade Details\nThe parade starts at 10:30. Everyone is encouraged to dress up\, make a float\, and grab a drum or other percussion instrument (MORE COWBELL\, YES?) for a festive drum line. Route information will be posted soon! \nPicnic Details\nPicnic location will be posted soon! \nFood: The Coleman Highlands Neighborhood Association will be providing hot dogs\, water\, soda\, and beer. Bring a side dish to share! \nSeating: We’ll provide tables for the food and may have a few extra tables for seating\, but bring your own chair! You might want to bring a picnic blanket\, too\, just in case!

SUMMARY:2022 Annual Easter Egg Hunt
DESCRIPTION:Additional Event Information\nALERT! DATE CHANGE DUE TO HIGH WINDS! This year’s Easter Egg Hunt will be held SUNDAY April 24th. We moved the date due to the weather – predicted gusts of up to 50 mph!!! Yikes! \nWe have between 250-300 eggs stuffed with all kinds of exciting toys and candy. There will be a few larger eggs hiding about and this year we’ll have an EXTRA GIANT GRAND PRIZE EGG. \nThe Egg Hunt will take place in Roanoke Park in the green space by Coleman Spring (north side of Karnes\, northeast of the volleyball court and just to the east of Grocers Lofts building).  \nPlease arrive to the egg hunt at or a few minutes before 3pm as the egg hunt will start promptly at 3. \nAs usual\, Scraps KC was a great resource for this event with boatloads of inexpensive Easter supplies. Please visit Scraps KC if you haven’t already! They are just down the street and are an absolutely amazing resource for crafting and art supplies. \nAlthough I will have a few baskets on hand for collecting eggs – please bring your own baskets if you have them.  \nTHE EASTER BUNNY WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE! We almost ended up with the Easter Bunny’s part-time assistant\, Easter Unicorn\, but the Easter Bunny luckily had an availability window on Saturday.
