How to Prepare Your Leaf & Brush for Pickup

Following these rules helps our collection crews work safely and efficiently. If your yard waste is not set out correctly, it may be tagged with a violation notice and not collected.

Set Out Requirements:

  • Curbside collection requires the use of paper lawn debris sacks:
    • No more than 20 sacks and bundles per household.
    • If wet weather is forecast, cover sacks and bundles with clear plastic.
    • If you seal the sacks, use masking tape only; do not use plastic or duct tape.
  • Timing – Items must be placed at the curb:
    • No earlier than 3 P.M. the day before collection.
    • No later than 7 A.M. on your scheduled collection day.
  • All branches must be bundled:
    • Branches must not be more than 3 inches in diameter.
    • Bundles of branches must not be more than 2 feet in diameter and not more than 4 feet long.
    • Use twine or jute rope to tie bundles, not wire or plastic tape.

Where to Put Your Items for Pickup:

  • Spacing: Your items must be at least 4 ft away from trash and recycling carts.
  • Near the Roadway: Your items must be within 3 ft of the road.
  • Keep Clear: Do not place items behind or next to any obstacles that may block them, such as trees, mailboxes, lamp posts, or parked cars.
  • Bulky Items: If you have scheduled a bulky item pickup, place your leaf and brush items away from the bulky items.
