Playgrounds Brainstorming Session Garners Immediate Results
First, we want to thank the almost 60 of you who participated in the successful playground charrette on January 18th at the Westport-Roanoke Community Center. It was so good to meet many of you and hear your great ideas for our playground. We also want to thank Hufft Projects for their time in helping facilitate the conversation and Room 39 for the refreshments.
Second, we are happy to announce that Parks and Rec has given the charrette exercise some instant feed back in the form of directing new play equipment to be installed, with our help, this spring in Roanoke Park! It will replace the oldest play equipment which is by the tennis courts. There were conversations back and forth for assurances that accepting this equipment now would not affect future funding for, or support of, our vision for redoing the Karnes location. We are assured it won’t. We heard you loud and clear and we want to make our Karnes site one of great creativity and beauty. We are very grateful for the fast response of Parks and Rec by giving Roanoke Park new equipment to serve our 2 – 12 population. It will be something our kids can play on this spring/summer! We have tentatively been slated for some funding for Karnes and we will update you when we have more information.
Please know we are in the process of compiling the data from the charrette and will send out an email soon with a summary. The word cloud at top captures the buzz of the day’s conversations. See www.roanokeparkkc.org for an uncropped version of the word cloud, a bit more information, and an initial article.
